Paintings by Silke Otto-Knapp
Work consisted of 13 sessions of dance over 2 weeks. Each session is represented by a different colored accent on the costume. Since the length of the performance was 26 hours, time-lapse photography was utilized instead of video documentation. On day 2, the “work” was icing a knee and working on a laptop, a much needed day of rest after running away from a Grizzly Bear during a Canadian hike.
The movement material was generated during the opening reception of Silke Otto Knapp’s show, Standing anywhere in the space in a relaxed position. Each day, a new spatial or qualitative assignment was applied to the material throughout a 2-hour improvisation.
